Medical Assistant Certificate
The medical industry has been one of the fastest growing industries in the 21st century. It has been reported that the employment of medical assistants is expected to grow rapidly as the health service industry expands. Currently, medical assistants make up the largest group of allied health professionals and are considered to be key players in improving the productivity and service of medical offices, clinics, laboratories, research centers, multispecialty facilities and hospitals.
Zarem/Golde ORT Technical Institute offers a Medical Assistant Certificate.
The Medical Assistant Certificate program is one of the most popular programs at Zarem/Golde ORT Technical Institute. Once enrolled in the program, students are provided with the competencies and training to become successful entry-level Medical Assistants. Students will receive intensive training in courses such as medical billing and coding, medical transcription, clinical procedures (including, but not limited to, capillary puncture, phlebotomy, EKG, and other analyses), laboratory procedures, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, and medical law.
Credits obtained by students while in the Medical Assistant Certificate program may be transferable to two-year and/or four-year programs at other colleges and universities worldwide. In order to earn the Medical Assistant Certificate at Zarem/Golde ORT Technical Institute, a student must complete 36 credits
The Institute's Medical Assistant Certificate program has an overall objective to prepare the student for an entry level position in the medical field with an emphasis on both clinical and administrative procedures. Students will learn to perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep health care delivery settings running smoothly. An externship at the end of the program puts what the students have learned into practice in an actual medical facility and may lead to employment in the field.

Admission Requirements: |
Students must be high school graduates or the equivalent, obtain passing scores on the school's entrance examination including an English and Math competency exam. For those who are not able to demonstrate the required level of competency, we offer remedial courses in Math and English reading and composition. Prospective students will also be interviewed by the Admissions Department. Class size is limited to one student per computer. Average class size is 12 students but no more than 15. |

Employment Opportunities
Employment of medical assistants is expected to grow 34 percent from 2008 to 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations. As the healthcare industry expands because of technological advances and the growth and aging of the population, there will be an increased need for all healthcare workers. Medical assistants with formal training or experience - particularly those with certification - should have the best job opportunities, since employers generally prefer to hire these workers.
