The Medical Office Assistant program at ORT Technical Institute gives you the skills to work in a support capacity in the front office of a medical facility. Emphasis is placed on telephone procedure/etiquette, patient reception and triage, computerized scheduling, documentation including medical insurance and coding, records management and inventory control. The importance of an upbeat attitude, steady work ethic and human relations is highlighted using simulation and case studies. Your training encompasses practical scientific skills in the clinical laboratory, knowledge of surgical instruments, medical supplies and procedures, specimen collection, diagnostic imaging and CPR. The curriculum covers a basic understanding of medical terminology, microbiology, immunology and anatomy. Competent Medical Office Assistants are always in high demand, no matter what the economic climate. Job titles for medical clerical workers include: Medical Administrative Assistant, Front Office Medical Clerk, Medical Secretary, Medical Records Clerk, Medical Receptionist and Medical Insurance/Billing Clerk.

A student must be a high school graduate or equivalent, pass the school's entrance exam and be interviewed by the Admissions Department. Class size is limited to one student per computer and appropriate medical equipment is provided. Average class size is 12 students. ORT provides small classes to promote increased learning speed and retention. The Medical Office Assistant program is taught 5 hours per day, 4 days per week, or 20 hours per week for 35 weeks. The evening classes are taught 4.5 hours per each session four times a week or 18 hours per week 40 weeks.
