Our Chicago training school, Zarem/Golde ORT Technical Institute (ORT Technical Institute), was established in 1991 to assist a large group of immigrants coming to the United States from the former Soviet Union. Our courses included English Language skills with ESL classes (English as a Second Language), acculturation to their new Chicago home and vocational training so that they could enter the American workforce. Since then Zarem/Golde ORT has graduated nearly 6,000 students from 60 different countries from nearly every continent except for Antarctica. Today, in addition to having students from all over the world, we also teach people locally who are transitioning from one field to another to accommodate the changing and challenging job market. At ORT we work with a wide variety of students from new High School graduates to parents updating their skills to return to the workforce, and other adult learners retraining for the competitive global and Chicago area job market. Our school is “A Welcoming Community of Practical Learning.” US ORT Operations, Inc. in New York oversees Zarem/Golde ORT Technical Institute in Skokie, Illinois, Los Angeles ORT College, and Bramson ORT College, a two-year college in New York City. All three are post-secondary technical vocational schools dedicated to providing affordable technology based education and English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction in the ORT tradition. US ORT Operations also has affiliated Learning Centers in Miami, Atlanta and Detroit. ORT opened the Los Angeles ORT College Main Campus facility in October 1985 (then the Los Angeles ORT Technical Institute) to serve students in need in the Greater Los Angeles area. The Zarem/Golde ORT Technical Institute is a branch campus of Los Angeles ORT College, and was recognized as a main campus by ACCET in 2006. ORT Technical Institute in the Chicago area is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education, the Veterans Administration, the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and the Department of Homeland Security to enroll non-immigrant alien students. |
